Alexi can definitely make it hard to maintain a relationship. My long-term girlfriend and I separated a while back, because she just couldn't deal with how unavailable I was emotionally anymore, which I could kind of understand. Like, in my own opinion I'm not emotionally unavailable, I'm just me, this is how I've always been, but looking from the outside in, I can see that how I was meeting her needs emotionally was clearly different than how other people were meeting their SOs emotional needs.

My advice would be for you to find someone who's really emotionally secure/stable, someone who wants to be in a relationship, but doesn't need to be.

Some Advice

In general, yeah, you're less likely to have issues with someone who is emotionally stable, but it is possible to maintain a relationship with others. What's most important is letting the person know about Alexithymia, letting him/her know that you're trying your best to understand and to comfort. Something that can make this easier is to show him/her this website, scroll through the forum and tell him/her which posts you feel describe you and which ones don't. It's much easier to get along when your SO understands that you really do care and just can't show it as well.
