Is monophilia normal?
14.10.2015 by Soulix

I'm not really used to knowing that I have alexithymia, and I realise that this is probably really basic stuff, so please bear with me.

So I just found out a few days ago about alexi, but before that I've noticed that I prefer to do most things by myself. I'm not really involved with the lives of any of my friends, or immediate family members, for that matter; I don't like doing any kind of group project, since having other people involved would detract from what I had planned; I don't really do anything social with my friends unless they invite me to do so; and I'm not really a very good conversationalist, and would rather to listen to other people's conversations without contributing my own thoughts. I was just wondering if this is a typical symptom of alexi, or if it's a completely unrelated character trait of mine.

As I understand it a lot of alexithymic people are also quite introverted, and there's a clear and logical link there, but I don't believe that it's strictly speaking part of the alexithymia "package".

Take a look into personality types and see if any of them make sense to you, as they are much more involved in the things you're talking about. I can carry on a conversation, but....

I am able to carry on a conversation..... but, like you, I prefer to be alone. I get frustrated because people can't talk intellectually to me. I feel like I have to "dumb down" to talk to people. I could do this when I was younger, now I don't have patience with it.
