Perception
11.01.2016 by Bellamay

I haven't been apart of this forum for long. A few days, basically. In that short time, I've noticed that the majority of the members struggle deeply with their lot in life. I, for one, do not. Don't get me wrong, I have my issues, especially where intimate relationships are concerned. Regardless, I am me and I rock. Let me tell you why...
Imagine, if you will, an entire planet of us. Think of how different the world would be. Preception; it's all in how you perceive things.
My son asked me if I thought that a global utopian society was possible. My reply, was no. Why? Well, quite literally, because the majority of people are emotional creatures. Their actions are based on, not logic, but rather the emotions they feel, which rule their ideologies and beliefs and, therefore, their actions.
If the entire planet were to put aside their emotions, what could we, as a whole, accomplish? Interesting question, if those of us who are emotionally detached can get past the perception that we are ill or in need of fixing. Realistically, we are not the ones who are ill. We are different, yes, yet there is nothing wrong with us.
Take Angels as an example. Many of us believe in Angels, but who are they? They are like us in many ways, but lack the emotions that humans have. Well, so too do we. Angels are regarded as superior to humans in more ways than one, granted, yet their lack of emotional depth is one of them. Now, I'm not, by any stretch of the imagination, saying that we are the equivalent of Angels. My point is this...
We are who we are. And we, void of the emotional undercurrents that rule our world, can see a clear view of the world and all in it. Essentially, we have a superpower... What will you do with yours? ;)

"Rulers"

Considering the world is primarily "run" by sociopaths, you may be on to something.

I agree!!!

Yeah that's totally true. That's why I've never understood why people thinking of having alexithymia as being ill or beign a bad thing. If anything, it makes things easier for me sometimes because I can handle things with a clear mind and make decisions logically instead of emotionally. Making things go smooth.

what Kari said....

wow, I notice I can get through a crisis, but when the crisis is over, then I "process" it, and it's like.... "what just happened?"

a new perspective

Despite of all the different ideologies I have seen and otherwise noted, to me Bellamay, I've made decisions that have granted me more wisdom with the coming days to come. But, I have the question for you. Would letting the ones such as yourself and I lead to a more desired result of a utopian society, since actions are a result of our emotions. For ones that have the ability or lack, whichever way you put it, to understand ones own emotions would then lead to an almost successful attempt to such creation. I know my mother always told me that "Pay with your actions and not the promises you say you'll keep". She only said this once but I remember well enough that its shaped my way of living and my perspective of life.

That is an interesting, not to mention tricky question, Mathew123. Being unable to process emotion does not eradicate the ego. To have a true Utopian Society that can withstand the test of time as we know it, the world as a whole would have to discard the ego, which triggers the emotions. Alexithymia may short-circuit the emotions, but we are still connected to our egos and it’s this aspect of people that stirs conflict. For a global utopian society, for the free flow of goods to all, we require an ego free way of life. Alexithimia would enable us to make better decisions, yes, but would the ego allow us make choices for the betterment of all, rather than the self? Likely not. Until Mankind evolves past SELF, the ego will rule the world and act in its own best interest, rather than the whole. Be that as it may, if the globally-conscious alexithymics made the decisions, we might see some progressive change for the good. Although in reverse, if the ego-driven alexithymics made the decisions, what type of world would we live in then…? I cringe to think.

(Sorry FermiParadox, Kari and DXS, Mathew123 is my son. He's special to me.)

sorry but this is wrong

Bellamay, this reasoning is fundamentally wrong. You do have emotions that drive you even if you are hardly aware of them. Even your logic does not actually work well without this. But this is a long topic to get into. The point though is, if you take a world with people who truly have no emotion, that world would not last long.
